Tired of waiting for people who have never been to church to come back? Why not try…Don't Go To Church SundayChristians up and down Britain are finding creative ways of meeting people where they are at and discovering that they are interested in Jesus but have no concept of church. Why not take a Sunday off and find meaningful ways to connect with the majority of our society - down the High Street, in Asda, at the gym, in the coffee shops, on the football pitch, in Ikea, in the park or down the pub.
Ideas & Resources:Here are a few ideas to get you thinking. Kids don’t come to Sunday School any more? Why not start a Sunday School in a supermarket or local café? Got a kid who is good at sport? Let them join a local club - what a great opportunity for you to get to know the other parents who probably never go to church and probably won’t just walk into yours. Realised that there are more people in your local coffee shop than your local church, why not start church in a cafe? (see www.cafechurch.net for ideas). Got a congregation who are itching to get out there? Take a Sunday off all together and get stuck into some imaginative work in the community. (see www.iamthechurch.org for ideas) Is your church great at doing relevant street work on Saturdays, don’t forget the thousands who are on your High Street on Sunday mornings too! Give the church a day off and encourage everyone to get involved with The Big Lunch (see www.thebiglunch.com) One Sunday instead of offering your money to the church funds, why not all go down the High Street or to your local major store and give away what you were planning to give to random people you meet! That will get them talking!! Do people not realise that your church offers prayers for healing? Take it the High Street to guarantee a queue. Wonder how church is ever going to connect with the thousands who shop at Asda on a Sunday? Why not offer a chaplaincy team each Sunday to be available to staff and shoppers. don’t just wait for people to come back... dontgotochurchsunday.org
